School - Day 2

The drive out to the village and school had not improved overnight, perhaps it is even worse. There is a good reason we are using 4x4 vehicles. Either that, or we would have to ride bicycles out there!

You meet all sorts on the road

Common mode of transport

Crop farm. Lots of rice, wheat and mustard grown in this area

Rice has recently been harvested - carrying the stalks for animal feed.

Interestingly, the participants were singing when we arrived. We entered in to join the crowd, which had multiplied over night. There were, perhaps, half as many again. We thought the room was full yesterday. Everyone moved up or over to allow room for more. The word had spread and we probably had 300 people in the group today, squeezing into the small space, all sitting on the floor. During breaks, many of the women just stayed where they were. No wonder many have sore backs! We struggled to sit on the floor, although Martien was determined to do so through a full school this year, which he can now say he has accomplished. A number experienced healing of sore backs, legs, headaches and other pains. It was great to see the excitement and joy on people's faces as they sang and listened to John's stories. He is a great story teller, quite animated, which the people appreciate.

Lunch - dhal baat (lentil soup and rice) and chicken and vegetables

  1. Super pictures! I was wondering how bumpy the road would be for those riding on those oxen carts? Maybe the slower pace would help. Still windy here but the sun shone today. Mountain has had a bit more snow and looks great - seems to have been specially prepared for the visitors to the flower festival.
Our love to you all. You're in our prayers.

  2. Very bumpy road. The oxen do a great job of moving heavy loads. Not sure the yoke they use are all that friendly, and the rope through the nose would be quite uncomfortable!

  3. Wow what a world you are experiencing and making a difference I'm sure. And to be welcomed by singing no doubt was quite moving.
Keep up the great work, hi to Liz and David.
